The Great Recession took its toll on American auto manufacturers and their retailers. In the throes of the recession, business at Grand Prize Chevrolet in Miami, Fla., was off more than 40 percent and management had to let 20 people go. But it remained open – by mid-2009 five nearby dealerships had closed. The store weathered the downturn and is still in business, employing nearly 40 people.
