Israel & Palestine. June – August 2014
The Israeli-Gaza war of 2014 was the result of increasing animosity between Hamas and Israel, with Hamas firing unguided rockets into civilian areas of Israel, allegedly as a desperate attempt to get Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza.
The kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers was the spark that sent the Israeli military into the Palestinian territory, along with a ferocious bombardment that included many civilian areas of densely crowded Gaza.
Amnesty International said on March 26 2015, that both sides had committed war crimes. Fifty days of conflict killed 2,100 Palestinians, mostly civilians and 66 Israeli soldiers and six civilians.
