When We Left Our Water

Edward, a Zimbabwean fisherman of Tonga heritage, paddles across the Mlibizi River, which branches off the Zambezi. National Parks officers occasionally patrol the area, confiscating fish and fining the fisherman, but they are hugely understaffed. Fisherman have been known to camp for a whole week in the area, many struggling to understand why the river they fished for centuries is now off limits. Davina Jogi/The Stand
